Since graduation, I went to Michigan for 2 years, then EMU to receive my BS in Nursing. I was married in 1980 to Dave Schumer and moved to the Chicago area where I still reside. During our 15 years of marriage, we had 2 children, and I worked in ICU and was the Nurse Coordinator of a Breast Center. After our divorce, I married breast cancer surgeon Arthur Michel in 1996. He was immediately diagnosed with cancer and passed away 4 years later. It was devastating. Thankfully, I have his children and grandchildren in my life. I was widowed for 10 years and in 2010 married Ron Kingsley, a tax attorney with 2 daughters. I quit my job at Northwestern in cancer research in order to help raise his youngest daughter, who had emotional issues. In 2013, at only 15, my stepdaughter ended her life. We are still reeling from it. The bright light is my new grandson, Ethan who is only 2 months old. I love being "Grancy" to my 5 grandchildren! My husband and I share the passion of world travel and learning about other cultures. Next stop - Cuba. Volunteer activities have included starting a Y-Me breast cancer support group and leading a community effort to create a children's park. Although I have suffered a lot of loss, I am surrounded by loving friends and family and try to experience the joys of life.

School Story

I loved growing up in Oak Park, being involved in school activities and serving as class secretary and treasurer. Favorite teachers were Senior Rossin, Barbara Goldsmith, Chuck Domstein and Judith Monday. I have fond memories of the ski club, teen nights at the ice rink, making floats for the homecoming parades, passing out flower valentines, working at concessions during basketball games, and planning the carnival and prom. I am especially proud of being the initiator of the very first Road Rally, which I understand became an Oak Park High tradition! The memories I cherish the most are those that were spent with my best friend and college dorm roommate, the late Susie Levine. Robin Adler, Paula Greenblatt and Shari Kasmer....your shining spirits will be missed forever.

Hi Judy! It's Nancy Sobel. I am not surprised to hear that you have lived a life of service to others and that you have furthered your education. I'll never forget your song at our graduation....it was so special!
